Achievements of Note
- Leaders in providing advanced software platforms that integrate Geospatial Web and Semantic Web infrastructure technologies into service-oriented architectures (SOA).
- Supported the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) in 60+ interoperability engineering tasks.
- Key contributor to the DHS Geospatial Enterprise Architecture (GEA), the first such geospatial SOA-based enterprise architecture for the US federal government, leading the business, application, and technology reference model efforts.
- Editor and key contributor to the Federal Enterprise Architecture Geospatial Profile, one of three such profiles that extend the Federal Enterprise Architecture Reference Models.
Enterprise Architecture Engineering
Image Matters' core competencies in interoperability engineering, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and semantic and geospatial technologies, applications, and standards serve as the basis for addressing specialized aspects of enterprise architecture engineering. For example, Image Matters personnel have played key roles in defining the geospatial aspects of the DHS Enterprise Architecture and the Federal Enterprise Architecture.
Standards-based SOA
Image Matters has remained at the cutting edge in designing and implementing standards-based service oriented architectures (S-SOA). These experiences have provided much insight into potential pitfalls and understanding exactly what it takes to design and implement successful service architectures with open interfaces. For example, Image Matters has worked closely with the OGC, providing interoperability engineering experts for OGC's collaborative Interoperability Program projects. Image Matters engineers have been Lead Architects for OGC on projects producing Geospatial Web Services, Sensor Web Services, and Location-Based Services (geospatial-wireless).
Spatial Data Infrastructures
Complementing our experience and expertise pertaining to the data lifecycle is our depth of experience in development of software and systems, and the data centers and facilities - both centralized and distributed - that are crucial for successful production, management and distribution of geospatial data and provisioning of online services. These core competencies are augmented by our specialization in organization-level strategy, design, spatial data infrastructures, data exchange methodologies and systems, data sharing agreements, system design and implementation, multi-level SDI connectivity, and interoperable applications and Web services including Portals and Web-Mapping Clients; these capabilities draw upon our unparalleled expertise in open standards and specification development and implementation for geospatial data (SDSFIE, FEMA OpenDXS), metadata (ISO-19115, FGDC CSDGM, FEMA NFIP), and OpenGISŪ Web services. For example, Image Matters designed and prototyped the Geospatial Interoperability Framework for enabling standards-based data sharing among FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) mapping partners and stakeholders. This included the "CTP Data Sharing" application for use by FEMA mapping partners for data publishing, discovery and access via integrated OGC Web Services for Spatial Data Infrastructures.
